That day, they showed America that the strength of the American Spirit endures, and it is our duty to carry that legacy of strength forward. We will never be able to fully repay our first responders for their heroism, but we can honor their legacy and support them in their continued service to protect our Nation.

THE DESIGNER’S NOTES: CREATING THE SHOE

I wanted to create something that would be an enduring tribute to these men and women. The day still lives vividly in my mind, but I needed to be there in person — so I went to the memorial at Ground Zero to immerse myself in its textures, its materials, its sense of place, and let what I felt there find its way into the shoe.

Two elements of the memorial stayed with me: the concrete and the steel. You'll find both in this shoe. The sole is shaped to echo that concrete — the strong foundation of movement. The steel lives in the highlights across the upper, providing structure and connectivity to the shoe, the way steel held and still holds that place together.

But the materials were never really the point. What we all want is for this shoe to honor those who serve, and to act as a reminder not of what happened, but of what happened after. And what happened after was a deeper sense of unity across this country.
