DESCRIPTION

The Athlete’s Barefoot Shoe.

The Primitive 1 was built on one simple belief: stronger feet build stronger athletes.

The Primitive 1 embraces the principles of natural movement with a zero-drop platform, wide toe box, and removable footbed that encourage natural foot mechanics and a stronger connection to the ground. Purposefully designed for athletes, a reinforced heel clip provides the stability and confidence needed for heavy lifts, explosive movement, and high-intensity training, creating a shoe that combines barefoot principles with the stability athletes demand.

Every detail was engineered to help athletes train closer to the ground without sacrificing the stability to perform at their best.

FEATURES

- Anatomical last with zero drop and a wide toe box for natural balance
- Minimal rubber outsole with multidirectional flexibility promotes stability and sensory feedback
- TPU heel stabilizer for lateral support
- Breathable mesh upper
- TPU upper reinforcement allows full mobility while providing engineered support
- 3.0 mm molded/removable footbed provides light cushioning without compromising ground feel

SIZING RECOMMENDATIONS

The Primitive 1 fits true to size with intentionally more room through the toe box for natural toe splay.
We recommend ordering your regular size for a standard fit. If you prefer a more fitted feel, consider sizing down a half size.
If you already wear the Savage 1, the Primitive 1 fits approximately a half size larger. Sizing down a half size from your Savage 1 size will provide a more comparable fit.
Keep in mind that the additional room around the toes is intentional. Your toes should have space to spread without the rest of your foot feeling loose inside the shoe.

WIDE ANATOMICAL TOE BOX

Your toes were built to spread. The Primitive 1 uses an anatomical shape with added room through the forefoot, allowing natural toe splay for better balance, comfort, and stability under load.

ZERO-DROP PLATFORM

A level platform from heel to toe keeps you close to the ground and allows your feet to work from a more natural position. Combined with minimal cushioning and a flexible outsole, it creates the ground connection and control that define the Primitive 1.

REINFORCED HEEL STABILITY

Barefoot principles don’t have to mean sacrificing stability. A reinforced TPU heel stabilizer creates a secure, locked-in feel for heavy lifts and dynamic movement while still allowing the rest of the shoe to move naturally with your foot.

Doesn’t budge

This was my first purchase and I was hesitant to purchase more than one before trying them. I put it on as soon as it arrived and was immediately happy with the fit, feel and texture. I wore it for a lifting workout, then half an hour of yoga and kept it on to go ride several horses. It never budged! I was super impressed with the support and how it doesn’t cut into my back. Ultimate comfort with support. I’ll be ordering more.

PRIMITIVE 1 FAQ's

Answers to common questions about barefoot shoes and the Primitive 1.

What is a barefoot shoe, and why should I care?

A barefoot shoe is designed to let your feet move and work more naturally. Compared to a traditional training shoe, that generally means a wider toe box, little to no difference in height between the heel and forefoot, less cushioning, and greater flexibility and connection to the ground.

The idea behind it is simple: your feet are your foundation, and they should be strong. Traditional footwear can do a lot of the work for your feet. Barefoot training takes some of that away, giving your feet more room to move, flex, stabilize, and get stronger over time.

The Primitive 1 takes those principles and applies them specifically to athletic performance. You get the natural movement and ground connection of a barefoot shoe with added stability where we believe athletes need it most.

Stronger feet build stronger athletes.

What makes the Primitive 1 different from other barefoot shoes?

We didn’t want to make a barefoot shoe just for walking around or doing mobility work. We wanted one we could actually train hard in.

The Primitive 1 starts with the fundamentals: a zero-drop platform, wide anatomical toe box, flexible outsole, minimal cushioning, and strong ground feel. From there, we added a reinforced TPU heel stabilizer and strategically placed support to keep your foot secure during heavy lifts and dynamic movement.

That balance is what makes the Primitive 1 different. It gives your feet the freedom to work without leaving you feeling unsupported when the intensity goes up.

Is the Primitive 1 right for me, or should I stick with the Savage 1?

Both are built for serious training, but they provide two distinctly different experiences underfoot.

The Savage 1 is a traditional performance training shoe with a 4mm drop, more cushioning, and a secure, locked-in feel. It still features a wide toe box, but provides more structure and cushioning between your foot and the ground.

The Primitive 1 strips more of that away. Its zero-drop platform, minimal cushioning, flexible construction, and wide anatomical toe box allow your feet to do more of the work and give you a much stronger connection to the ground.

Both are built to lift and move dynamically. If you want more cushioning and structure, the Savage 1 is likely the better choice. If you want greater ground feel, flexibility, and a more natural training experience that challenges your feet to work harder, that’s where the Primitive 1 comes in.

Many athletes may ultimately find a place for both in their training.

How does the Primitive 1 fit?

The Primitive 1 fits true to size with intentionally more room through the toe box for natural toe splay.

We recommend ordering your regular size for a standard fit. If you prefer a more fitted feel, consider sizing down a half size.

If you already wear the Savage 1, the Primitive 1 fits approximately a half size larger. Sizing down a half size from your Savage 1 size will provide a more comparable fit.

Keep in mind that the additional room around the toes is intentional. Your toes should have space to spread without the rest of your foot feeling loose inside the shoe.

Is the Primitive 1 stable enough for heavy lifting?

Absolutely. This was one of the primary reasons we built it.

One of the things we felt was missing from many barefoot shoes was the locked-in stability we wanted when training under load. The Primitive 1 uses a reinforced TPU heel stabilizer to help secure the rear of the foot and provide additional lateral stability through squats, deadlifts, and other strength movements.

Combined with a wide, zero-drop platform that keeps you close to the ground, the result is a stable foundation without the bulk of a traditional lifting or training shoe.

It’s barefoot-inspired footwear purposefully engineered for athletes.

Will the Primitive 1 strengthen my feet?

Barefoot-style training places fewer structural elements between your feet and the ground, allowing the muscles of the feet to play a greater role in movement and stability.

The Primitive 1 was designed around that philosophy. Its wide toe box allows natural toe splay, while the zero-drop platform, flexible outsole, and minimal cushioning allow your feet to move and work more naturally.

Like any part of the body, adaptation takes time. If you’ve spent years training in highly cushioned or structured footwear, we recommend gradually incorporating the Primitive 1 into your training rather than changing everything overnight.

What does “zero drop” mean?

Drop refers to the difference in height between the heel and forefoot of a shoe.

A traditional training or running shoe usually positions the heel slightly higher than the toes. A zero-drop shoe keeps the heel and forefoot level, creating a flatter platform and keeping your foot closer to its natural position.

For the Primitive 1, zero drop is an important part of creating better ground connection and allowing the foot to work naturally during training.

Why does the Primitive 1 have such a wide toe box?

Because your toes need room to work.

The Primitive 1 is built on an anatomical last with additional room through the forefoot, allowing your toes to spread naturally rather than being compressed together.

That toe splay creates a broader base of support and allows your feet to contribute naturally to balance and stability, particularly when you’re training under load.

The shoe is intentionally roomy through the toes without feeling loose through the rest of the foot.

Why add a heel stabilizer to a barefoot shoe?

Because we built the Primitive 1 for athletes, not barefoot purists.

We wanted the foot to move naturally through the forefoot while still feeling secure when lifting heavy or moving dynamically. The reinforced TPU heel stabilizer adds structure around the rear of the foot to provide a more locked-in feel and additional lateral stability.

It’s an intentional design choice and one of the features that separates the Primitive 1 from more minimal barefoot shoes.

Freedom where you want it. Stability where you need it.

Can I run in the Primitive 1?

The Primitive 1 is a training shoe first. It’s designed to handle the running, jumping, sprinting, and conditioning that are part of a typical training session.

It is not intended to replace a dedicated running shoe for longer-distance running. The minimal cushioning and zero-drop platform create a very different experience than a traditional running shoe, particularly if your feet and lower legs aren’t accustomed to it.

For shorter runs, sprints, and mixed-modal training, it’s right at home. If you’re new to running in barefoot or zero-drop shoes, start on a more forgiving surface like grass or turf before moving to harder surfaces like pavement or concrete. Give your feet and lower legs time to adapt.

Do I need to transition into barefoot shoes gradually?

If barefoot or zero-drop footwear is new to you, we recommend giving your body time to adapt.

Your feet and lower legs may be asked to work differently than they do in more cushioned and structured footwear. Start by wearing the Primitive 1 for shorter training sessions or specific movements, then gradually increase your time in them as they begin to feel natural.

There’s no prize for transitioning overnight. The goal is to build a stronger foundation over time.

What’s it made of, and how does it feel to wear?

The Primitive 1 combines a lightweight, breathable mesh upper with strategically placed TPU reinforcement for added structure and durability.

Underfoot, a flexible minimal outsole keeps you connected to the ground, while a removable 3mm footbed provides a small amount of cushioning without taking away the feel that defines the shoe.

Expect it to feel noticeably flatter, more flexible, and more connected to the ground than a traditional trainer, while the heel stabilizer and upper keep your foot secure when it’s time to train.

Can I remove the footbed?

Yes. The 3mm footbed is removable, allowing you to further reduce the amount of material between your foot and the ground if that’s your preference.

We recommend starting with the footbed in place, particularly if you’re new to barefoot footwear. As you become accustomed to the shoe, you can experiment with removing it for an even more minimal feel and greater ground connection.

Do I need to wear socks with the Primitive 1?

We recommend wearing socks with the Primitive 1 for the best overall fit and training experience. Socks help the shoe feel more secure around the foot while also helping with moisture and odor management.
That said, socks aren’t required. The Primitive 1 can be worn without them, and some athletes may prefer that feel. Like any shoe worn barefoot, comfort against the skin can vary from person to person.
For training, we recommend socks, but ultimately it comes down to personal preference.
